<p>On the day after Christmas in 2004, Sonali Deraniyagala and her husband, her parents and her two young sons were vacationing at a seaside resort in Sri Lanka when history’s most ferocious tsunami churned up beneath the Indian Ocean. It directly hit 11 countries and left more than 150,000 people dead or missing and millions homeless. </p>
